The corkscrew

This is an inverted exercise, that is where the legs go over the head. It consists of a roll over movement which involves rolling up one side of the spine and down the other and at the bottom of the move, the pelvis smoothly tips from either 3 or 9.o ’clock through 6. o’ clock to either 9.o’ or 3.o’ clock depending on the direction you are moving.

It can be learnt by practising bridging travelling up and down one side of the spine with the pelvis semi -circular movement.

It is a challenging spinal articulation exercise and should be done with the aim of ‘fluidity, elegance and grace’(Joseph Pilates quote) which is great for the spine increasing its mobility.
